Punch Needle Brooches

Punch Needle Brooches are small textile accessories made by forming loops of yarn through a woven foundation fabric with a punch needle. Cotton, wool and blended yarns are commonly worked on monk’s cloth, linen or firmly woven cotton. Once the motif is complete, the reverse may be secured with textile adhesive and covered with felt or another backing fabric. A locking brooch pin is then sewn or fixed to the back.

Typical designs include flowers, birds, fruit, pets, initials and simple abstract shapes. On delicate fabric, placing the pin near a seam or using a small protective patch behind the material can help reduce pulling and visible pin marks.

Keep Punch Needle Brooches dry and avoid machine washing or soaking them. Light surface dust can be removed with a soft brush, while a small mark may be dabbed carefully with a barely damp cloth.
