Go to the full collection →Planters are ceramic vessels designed to support healthy root growth while fitting naturally into indoor or outdoor settings. Independent makers may work with stoneware, earthenware, porcelain or grogged clay, depending on the intended finish and level of durability. Common processes include wheel throwing, slip casting, slab building and hand forming. A piece may have a glossy glaze, a satin surface, carved decoration or exposed clay, with firing temperature influencing strength, porosity and weather resistance.
Available forms can range from compact pots for herbs and succulents to deep containers for foliage plants, tabletop designs, hanging pieces and raised models. Before choosing a size, compare the inner diameter and depth with the plant’s nursery pot and root system. A cachepot should leave enough clearance for the inner container to be lifted out easily. For direct planting, a drainage hole is usually preferable; when there is no hole, keeping the plant in a removable plastic pot helps prevent standing water around the roots.
Planters may be used on shelves, desks, kitchen counters, balconies or sheltered terraces. For outdoor placement, ask the maker whether the clay body and glaze tolerate frost, repeated rain and strong sunlight. A matching saucer can protect wood and other moisture-sensitive surfaces, although it should still be emptied after watering. Most glazed pieces can be wiped with a soft damp cloth, while rough or unglazed surfaces are better cleaned without abrasive chemicals. Small variations in colour, dimensions and texture are a natural feature of handmade work.

When listings appear, check whether the stated dimensions are internal or external, and confirm drainage, saucer inclusion, weight and outdoor suitability. Tospika does not process sales.
